You might begin by telling us a bit about yourself, your interests; and where you are from. It would be nice if you could say what bought you to the forum. Was it a recommendation, an accident, or have you been looking for a place like this for ages? Many new members may feel daunted at the prospect of posting pictures in the forum. I have tried here to explain how this is done, and once you have got the “know-how” of it; it is actually quite simple. Feel free to post your queries in this thread, where you will receive help from a number of members who have now mastered how to post many outstanding pictures in here – jraah ~~

So what does your work area consist of? I started off with a small fold down table that I used to put up in the kitchen and then fold it up, clean up my mess, and let my wife have her kitchen back! It was most frustrating, as I couldn’t leave thins as they were to be able to continue the next day. I now have the complete garage area! So what have you got? What machinery and tools do you have? Post a picture of your workshop or work area, do you have a lathe, a band saw ect? What particular tool or jig wouldn’t you be without – post pictures. ~~ jraah ~~

If you come across an interesting link to a website then please share it with us here! It could be a supplier of tools, miniature chain, timber or metal. It might be a museum, not necessarily one you have visited; or perhaps a working farm. It could be another model website, not specifically to do with SMHDV, but it may contain tips and ideas that would fit in with our hobby. ~~ jraah ~~

You may be a novice, you may be an experienced model maker; but if you are looking for advice and help on anything at all, this is the place to ask. It doesn’t matter if you think it is a daft and trivial questions, please don’t be afraid to ask! Likewise, if you have a particular way of producing scale nuts and bolts, getting timber to size, silver soldering or bending metal to shape etc, then get your idea in here. Each and everyone of us are never to old to learn something new! ~~ jraah ~~

It would be nice to know what sort of horse drawn vehicle books, and other related subjects we each have in our collection. What is title of the book/s you have found most helpful and inspiring in regards to our hobby of making SMHDV? It doesn’t have to specifically be about horse drawn vehicle; subjects can be wide ranging, as long as it is relevant and applicable to what we do. You could also mention what book you would like to acquire; perhaps another poster can then direct you towards it! ~~jraah~~

Some members felt the need for a section where pictures and information about various full size horse drawn vehicles and related machinery could be posted. Well, here is that section! Ploughs, rakes and manure spreaders; Sleighs, buggies, ice wagons, cannons and medieval siege machines etc, can be included here. ~~jraah~~

This is your forum, and as such it is only right and proper that each of you has the opportunity to voice any suggestions you might have. So please….if you have any ideas that you would like to put forward about any aspect of the forum, this is the place! It might be that we have a vote on certain things, a poll can then be started and then the majority vote would be implemented! Do you feel we need a new forum category, and if so, what would you suggest? What changes (if any) would you like to see on the forum? ~~ jraah ~~

Member Paul Woods has suggested a ‘How To……….’ forum. And here it is! This forum is for all you great model makers to share with the rest of us, you particular or unique way of doing things! How do you make elliptical springs, eyebolts, and wheels etc? Are you good at silver soldering, scale upholstery work or making miniature barrels? I would like to see some of these methods explained in detail, and hope that this will then lead to others contributing to the same topic. I do believe that no matter how adept we are at doing something, there maybe an easer, quicker, cheaper way of doing it! Please share your thoughts and methods here. ~~ jraah ~~

The SMHDV forum is, strictly speaking, a place to talk about all things to do with horse drawn vehicles, and primarily the making of scale models of these. Sometimes, quite unintentionally, a poster might veer of slightly from the main topic of a thread. If this then continues and several members join in the “off topic” discussion, the thread can be “hijacked!” Again, the “hijacking” of a thread is probably unintentionally, but if allowed to continue, the original subject of the thread could be lost, and might discourage other from continuing with the original debate……read more in the sticky! ~~ jraah ~~
