Welcome! Welcome to the Scale Model Horse Drawn Vehicle Forum, an online model maker’s forum community where you can join other model makers from around the world discussing all things related to making Scale Model Horse Drawn Vehicle (SMHDV). This is a forum for those who have a desire to “scratch-build” their models. Please open the section to the right for an explanation of what “scratch-building” is. To post messages etc., you need to be registered. Due to the enormous amount of spam bots trying to infiltrate the Forum I have disabled Anyone trying to register. But please don’t let that prevent you joining the forum! If you are a genuine person, and not a spam robot, all you need to do is send me an email with a username and a password (both of these should be more than three characters long and contain a mix of letters and numbers) Once you have done this, your account will be active within 12 hours, (usually much less!) of registration. We hope you enjoy your stay with us. ~~jraah~~

Default What is "Scratch Building"?

It is not our intention to deride or belittle any other type of model making, but this is a forum for “Scratch-Built” models only,
What is “scratch-building”?
This is the process of building something "from scratch", that is, from raw materials, rather than building it from a commercial kit, “kit-bashing” or buying it pre-assembled. To start with; it should be made perfectly clear to all potential new members that this forum DOES NOT cater for the “kit-bashing” model maker. “Scratch-building” is certainly harder and more involved than “kit-bashing,” but the satisfaction one gets from creating something with your own hands from raw materials is very satisfying and rewarding. There are many other forums which cater for “kit-bashing” models; this forum is not one of them! You may have completed a number of models from a boxed kit, and may now wish to attempt a Scale Model Horse Drawn Vehicle. There are a number of excellent plans which can be obtained from various sources to get you started in this fascinating hobby.

The four models shown above have all been made in 1/8th scale (1½ inches = 1 foot). All of them have been “scratch-built”. This means that every part has been made by the model maker; they are NOT “kit-bashed” models out of a box with pre-assembled parts! Bought plans were used for the first two models, the last two models had no plans, and they have been made from the information taken from a few old photographs of the actual vehicles. Many hours of time consuming research has been employed in contacting museums, libraries and the vehicle manufactures themselves when this has been possible. You can follow the stage by stage build of these models and many more in the Progression of a model section.
